JSUMC Lab is the central hub for pathology diagnostics, serving five hospitals. We were tasked with upgrading and expanding the lab spaces serving microbiology, cytology, histology, molecular labs including administrative spaces. The 6 phase project doubles the size of the existing labs and organizes them with greater efficiency and the flexibility to accommodate future expansion.

Master Planned Expansion of the Women's Imaging Center

This project involved a multiphase expansion of an existing radiology, surgical and diagnostic treatment center. The client tasked us with master planning a 14,000 square foot addition to its imaging center. We created shell spaces that are flexible enough to house future technologies and increased efficiencies through technologies (IT supported neighborhoods) and adjacencies to reduce circulation and steps.

This busy ED space outgrew its functional use, precipitating the need for an expansion. We were brought in to master plan the ED department. This task involved studying the existing department with an eye toward optimizing its function by improving staff and patient flow while adding new spaces, for Pediatric ED, Behavioral Health and Fast Track that would relieve the Emergency Department proper freeing it up for critical care. The project provides 50,000 square feet to be accomplished in 5 phases while the hospital remains operational.

This project involved the expansion of an existing Women’s imaging department to create a comforting patient-centered environment while also providing greater thru-put. (greater efficiency seeing patients).

A new perinatal area was created and labor and delivery area with a full operating suite was upgraded while the space remained in continuous use. The challenge of the six phase project was to phase the project to complete in one year while doing so with minimal disruption to the hospital’s operation.

Existing institutional finishes were replaced with warm, sustainable, spa-like interiors in natural colored hues of blue, brown and yellow.

This project expands and re-organizes an existing emergency department with the focus on improving the delivery of medical care. Located in a resort area, the hospital experiences a doubling of the population it serves during the summer months. Our task was to address this unique requirement while also providing space for future growth. The five-phase project creates separate areas for traditional ED, fast track, pediatric, and behavioral health services and links them in an efficient layout that imparts a calm demeanor and a general sense of well-being.

This urban infill project is designed to be a state-of-the-art full service cancer treatment center and is targeted for LEED Silver certification. The project features a habitable green roof with views of the Manhattan skyline for use by patients. The project includes infusion treatment, radiation oncology, a same day surgical center with three operating rooms, and physician offices.
